Thinking about springs newest color combo….
Wednesday, February 17th, 2010Orange and turquoise may sound like a crazy combination but it is a color combo that is popping up everywhere this spring from clothes to weddings and beyond! Summer weddings should be about bold, fun, tropical colors and nothing says tropical quite like turquoise!
Pull in the color of the ocean waves by dressing your bridesmaids in a rich turquoise color and have them accent with orange flower hairpieces. Let the guys get in on a bit of the fun by having them go barefoot at your beachfront ceremony, wear sand colored suits and have an orange hankie tucked in the pocket of their jackets!
Don’t forget about your guests….hand each guest a silk fan with a linen color background and turquoise writing and place a hibiscus flower on each important person’s seat (mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, aunts and uncles). What a great way to make your guests feel that they are just as important to your wedding day as your bridal party!
For your reception, make sure that the feeling under your tent is party party party! Serve pineapple martinis as your signature drink. Incorporate hot pink orchids dripping from the ceiling and in your centerpieces, and don’t forget to have a fantastic band! Start the night off with a steel-drum player while everyone is coming into the tent and then really get the party started with a lively band! Pull in the turquoise by projecting lights with patterns onto the ceiling of the tent and allow the lights to create a feeling of being in a tropical wonderland!
With the snowstorm going on outside and all this talk of summer it is making me want to throw a really fabulous “welcome summer” party in a few months….whose coming!?
Send in your ideas….can’t wait to hear from you!

snow…..finally!
Tuesday, February 9th, 2010With the impending snowstorm this week I can’t help but think about how romantic snow really is. Glistening white, sparkling in the sun, and the winter wonderland that is created when all of the trees are coated on the beautiful back roads of New Hampshire. Why can’t we capture this beauty in the things that we create?
The sparkle that snow has can’t just be recreated by throwing some craft glitter down on a table….it needs to be carefully thought out and executed. Consider taking a solid white cloth and finding an overlay that can be a light white organza that may have a bit of a sheen to it. This would allow for the light in the room to reflect off of the sparkle that is in the cloth, which would make the shimmer that you see on the table, similar to the shimmer that is created by the sunlight hitting the snow.
Don’t let your winter wedding be dictated by a “snow” theme. Allow yourself to pick up other natural elements that remind you of winter….birch tree branches in the centerpiece, a rich silver charger underneath a silver lined plate, and crystal goblets to mimic the different “cuts” of a snowflake.
Winter wedding foods can also be quite enjoyable…since most people tend to think of late spring, summer and fall as “wedding season” having your wedding in the winter months can absolutely allow you to set yourself apart from everyone else. Serve a luscious lobster bisque as a starter course, a salad with a poached pear and warmed goat cheese….yum! I’m getting hungry just thinking about it! For the main course do something completely out of the box…serve roasted half chickens resting on a sweet potato base and topped with some fresh sprigs of rosemary; as a vegetarian option serve stuffed roasted artichokes and root vegetables with a warm bernaise dipping sauce on the side. Top off the meal with a white chocolate raspberry layered cake served with white hot chocolate and raspberry liqouer. The colors in these meals can create the entire palette for your wedding!

Make it your own
Monday, February 8th, 2010Coco Chanel once said, “Innovation! One cannot be forever innovating. I want to create classics”. The word “classic” often comes out of brides mouths….a classic looking invitation, a classic tuxedo for their husband-to-be, a classic car to drive them to and fro….my question is; what makes something classic? How are we supposed to create an event that is unique unto a couple, yet still have the elements of the classic fairytale wedding?
Through the incorporation of colors that reflect the bride and groom, anyone walking into the reception can envision the kind of love that this couple shares. Bright colors (teal, yellow, fuschia, orange) typically reveal couples that aren’t afraid to stand out from the crowd; fun-loving and carefree, these couples usually enjoy travel, entertaining friends and new experiences. Prime colors (navy, red, black, white) are usually associated with a couple that want a timeless, romantic feel incorporated into their wedding…think Romeo & Juliet, and other great love stories of our time.
Each wedding, regardless of color choice can incorporate classic wedding elements. If using ivory or white as an accent color, use an overlay of lace to tone down any other colors that you may be accenting. Place the same lace covering that your grandparents used at their wedding to decorate your cake table. Nothing says classic wedding (or party for that matter!) quite like asking your guests to come in black tie. These days, asking people to dress in traditional black tie may be a stretch, but you can absolutely stress that men wear jackets and/or ties and that women are dressed in either skirts, dresses or dress pants.
YOUR wedding will be perfectly suited to you and will always provide you with wonderful memories. Try not to stress about what other people have done in the past to try to define what a wedding is or isn’t. In my mind, a wedding is whatever you make it to be since its supposed to be a reflection of your past, present and future as a couple.
Until next time!
